X.25 enables retail store devices to access the X.25 networks of bank credit card verification systems. This release note describes the features and caveats for Cisco 700 series router software Release 4.1(1) X.25, which supports X.25 over the ISDN B channel.

The filenames for the X.25 image are C760-in.rx-NET3.41-1.bin (Remote Office) and C760-in.rx-NET3.41-1.bin (Internal Ready). The DOS filename for the X.25 image is 80206501. The image requires 1.5 MB of DRAM.
For this release, only Cardway TPAD services (British Telecom) are supported. (The connection is made through the Cisco 700 series router serial port.)
The set serial_port command toggles the serial port function as a configuration port or a TPAD port:
set Serial_Port TPAD | ConfigFor example, the following command sets the serial port to be a TPAD port.
Host> set serial_port tpad
When the port is set to TPAD, communications from a configuration terminal to the serial port are no longer possible. Configuration commands can be entered by using Telnet.
To switch from TPAD mode to CONFIG mode, you can do one of the following:
X.25 for the Cisco 700 series router is not configurable. This implementation of the X.25 is strictly to support TPAD. The X.25 fixed parameters required by the TPAD protocol are as follows:
NUI (Network User Information) and NUA (Network User Address) are supported as described in British Telecom CardWay 0800 Phase 3 Access Platform specification.
X.28 and other X.25 PADs (Packet Assembly Disassembly) are not supported. There is no protocol sensing provision.
The call direction is dial-out only. Incoming calls and two-way calls are not supported.
The information in this release note is not documented in the Cisco 700 Series Command Reference, the Cisco 700 Series Installation Guide, or in any other product-related document.
